Stay the Course or Make a New One

If you are one of our newsletter subscribers, you may have been surprised yesterday to find out that we added twins to our family just over a month ago. Yes, I’m physically exhausted, however mental exhaustion has also become a part of my life in the past five weeks because I now have so much time to think. What am I thinking? Simply put – Do I stay the course or make a new one?

Be a TeaseDon’t be alarmed!

Sutton Creative Studios is not going anywhere except up!

Our twins were not planned. Well, let’s be honest: the entire pregnancy was not planned. As of today we have three children under the age of 18 months (and three older children as well!). May 2014 found us 100% happy with our family, its size, and our places within it, and we were planning to shut the doors of the baby making factory. The first week of June told us to plan otherwise.

2014 gave us many opportunities to stay the course or make a new one, and this was one of those “make a new one” opportunities. Working at home with Nevaeh, our (now) 17 month old could be tough, and we were/are just going to have to adapt to having three at our side rather than one.

(internal flashback to silent screams of panic)

Growing families and growing businesses both experience pain, often because the leaders expect the organizations to grow without changing any of the processes within. Our biggest pain came from the realization that our family would no longer be able to fit in a four-door sedan. A mini-van or SUV was in our future, and poor Dave saw his dream of owning a Delorean pushed a little bit further into the future.

I don’t think I need to explain how “Be a tease” comes into  play here. Instead, I want to remind you to make every chapter as unforgettable as the first. In addition, if you include social media links or links to extras within your book, be sure to keep the content constantly fresh and updated.

Free Membership Trial – If your company sells a membership program of some sort, offering a free or reduced price trial subscription is an incredible way to expand your subscriber base. For example, last year or the year before I was on one of Laura Roeder’s webinars at the end of which she offered a reduced price ($1!!!) for the first month of her LKR Social Media program. To be completely honest, I signed up only because the first month was only $1, and not for any other reason. I figured I would check it out and cancel within the first 30 days so I wouldn’t have to pay full-price ($95) the next month. That’s not quite what happened…

I got sidetracked and never logged in. My reminder came once my card was charged $95, and by that point it was too late to cancel for the month. It was at that point that I decided I better make the most of that $95, and I began working my way through her content. You know what? I was impressed. Not only did I NOT cancel my subscription before the end of that month, but I kept it for about six months. It wasn’t until I had gotten through all the content that I unsubscribed.
